The J-POP Files: An Introduction

Hello world!

Welcome to the J-POP Files (title may be subject to change). This blog was created as part of a school project for my J-Pop Globalization class at Waseda University (yeah, that's right, Waseda), but I'm hoping to one day expand on it and do much more with it... Maybe.

For the moment, its purpose will be to introduce various trends in the Japanese music industry. However, in the future, I may discuss many other popular culture trends in Japan, since I am living here anyway and have a lot of first-hand experience.

I'm hoping that my posts here will be both informative and amusing. I'll probably also make a lot of comparisons between North America (since I know it well) and Japan. So, hopefully this can become a tool for people living abroad to better understand pop culture in Japan. I must warn you though, I am prone to ranting and all that is here will be heavily painted in my own bias. Furthermore, although I originally came to Japan in part because I was mesmerized by the pop culture, I have since grown very disdainful of it and this jadedness may present itself from time to time. Either way, you have been warned.

Hope you enjoy!

Peace.
